Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of Rollforming over other manufacturing processes?
Rollforming is a fast production method and ensures the quality and consistency of the profile every production run.
Is it possible to make variations on the same profile, eg, channels with different widths?
The general answer is yes it can be done with basic profiles by adding spacer rolls, but there are limitations depending on the profile.
Can I include holes / slots in the product while it is being manufactured?
Yes, usually any holes or slots are punched on an in-line press before the metal strip feeds into the forming rolls. In some instances, this can be done as a post rollforming operation or as a secondary operation.
Can I make a small number of products using a rollformer?
We have done production runs of less that 1000m and made products for one-off projects, but as custom rollforming requires a rollset and cut-off tooling that is designed, commissioned, heat treated and installed, making a small number of products is not usually cost-effective.
What is the maximum thickness you can rollform?
Rollforming is traditionally used for light-gauge products, however some heavy gauge products are rollformed on larger machines. At Premier Steel we are able to manufacture up to 4mm thickness.
Is Rollforming the same as forming with Rolls?
Many heavy metal beams like Channels, Lintels, I-beams, Plates and Angles typically used in the building industry are shaped by passing back and forth through large curving rolls that progressively form the length into the required shape. This is a different process to rollforming and usually done by an engineering or fabrication company.
Can I supply my own steel?
We operate in different ways to suit each customer. Some choose to deliver their own coil, while other customers prefer Premier to purchase material for them. It’s whatever works best for you.
How do you arrange packaging and transport?
From the initial product discussion, we work out the best way to pack and transport your product. Whether simply strapped on pallets, packed in special crates or wrapped for weather or safety reasons, we are happy to discuss the best solution for you. For local deliveries we have our own 4.5 Tonne, 7m flatbed rigid truck and for larger loads, customers usually organise their own trucks or semi-trailers. Our loading area can accommodate a B Double.
